My wife and I both own Nexus 4 devices. She recently got the 5.0.0 update about three weeks ago and just received the 5.0.1 update recently. I haven't yet installed the 5.0.0 update myself. Since we're on the same carrier, I assume that's not the issue. If I don't get it in another week, I'll have to install it manually myself.
Google has a set of instructions as well as all the images available here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images Try to see if you can get the OTA and if it works for you, just stay on that. If that seems buggy, try flashing the stock images from Google. There is no guarantee that things will be buggy with the OTA (the main compalint I hear is with battery life tanking after the upgrade) but just know some users have reported some issues. Best of luck!
Haha, it's not that bad. Here are your simplified steps:
1. Get fastboot from the link provided; it installs all needed drivers and fastboot for your PC.
2. Download the Nexus 4 image from the Google Dev site and unzip it somewhere you like.
3. Power off your phone, then turn it back on while holding the volume down—it’ll get you into bootloader mode.
4. Open Command Prompt on Windows (find it via search).
5. Run the command: fastboot oem unlock. Be aware this will erase all personal data and apps.
6. After that, run the flash script from the unzipped image. Once done, reinstall apps and reconnect to services.
Or wait for the OTA update to finish.
Your PC is presently stored, and I can provide guidance for Mac.
I understand you're not comfortable with Macs and don't want to dive into technical details. You can wait for the OTA update, which is likely safer. There are many resources available online about sideloading nexus updates if you're interested in exploring further.
