The Nexus 4 appears in the Lollipop device list, though I haven’t received the latest patch. While I can apply updates manually, an OTA update seems more convenient. Has Google announced an OTA release for the Nexus 4 so far? If not, what are typical update durations?

A friend got it for his N4 a few weeks ago, so you should be getting it soon. Unless your carrier is slowing it down, of course.

He removes the Google services framework and wipes all information. After that, he verifies for new updates. (Rinse and repeat whenever necessary)

It may take a short time to complete the OTA, but since 5.0.1 is now being released, you should have received it already. Be cautious of some reports about problems with the Nexus 4 after the update, so you might want to check those issues online. To be safe, flash the original factory image from Google. I did this on my Nexus 5 and encountered no issues.

I'll attempt this a little while... What do I need to flash? I don't want to deal with firmware or boot loaders. Just simple, clear steps for a kid—keep it easy and avoid any mistakes.
