Many who were present during that six-month period noticed the 1600AF at a retail price of $85. It was a significant find. What makes it rare today? Perhaps no direct match exists. If something similar emerged, it could be labeled 3600(af). It would likely be presented as a new R5-3600, though it would actually use a Zen 3 chip with 7nm technology. I know this sounds like a dream, but it would be fascinating. Of course, it would need to be extremely affordable as well. The very first CPU I owned when I began tinkering was the 1600(af), used to upgrade an HP prebuilt with a 2400-core processor. It was impressive, switching from 4 to 6 cores for the first time. Anyone else remember what you did with yours?

I was mainly dealing with issues that appeared unexpectedly. Usually using a spray or dunking 99% isopropyl alcohol helped a lot. Perhaps I should upgrade to a Q6600 or E5450. I’m not sure if a 2600AF or 1600AG is available, but it would be interesting. If you’re looking for better value, you’ll need to explore less common options—like the one I found on AliExpress: a 16-core 2683 v4 for $145, offering solid multicore performance at a budget price. Alternatively, the ECP 7551 or 7571 are around $500-750 on eBay and also provide good multicore performance.

You're referring to a CPU released two years ago in October. Are you looking for a similar model now? The price was good, but the performance might not match. AMD has faced driver problems recently, and their latest Ryzen CPUs are the 9 series (5900X, 5950X). For the Ryzen 5 lineup, it's the 5600X. It looks like the core speeds and overall specs haven't changed much compared to previous Ryzen models. Ryzen 5600X | Game with the Best | AMD

The 1600AF is solely due to AMD stopping the manufacture of 14nm processors. It matches the 2600 silicon version exactly. If 12nm production stops, we might expect a 2600AF featuring Zen 2. However, given the ongoing chip shortage, such a development seems unlikely within the next couple of years.

AM4 will stop being available at that point.

Try it? Maybe. Execute it smoothly? Unlikely. The 3100 barely meets the requirements to run the game, and switching to a 3200 or higher doesn’t offer much advantage for AMD CPUs. The reason AMD outperforms Intel in benchmarks is that top scores usually highlight threadripper CPUs and often mention LN2 cooling. It’s easy to surpass one CPU compared to another when comparing a 64-core processor with an 8-core one. Plus, there are more Intel CPUs in office computers since they’re better suited for multitasking.

This observation aligns well with the conclusion about ending 14nm production. It's logical, and it seems unlikely that similar developments will occur soon.
