It’ll be paired with an MSI Ventus 3x Plus and a 12Gig 3080 on a 1080p screen (though it might be a bit much, but I’m planning upgrades later). I intend to play games such as Cod, Fortnite, Rust, Minecraft, and other standard FPS titles that are coming soon. I also use Blender occasionally for fun, but it doesn’t match professional standards—so I wouldn’t rely on it for performance needs.
Do you need a resource that clearly outlines details like core count, thread count, clock speed, etc. To help you grasp these concepts better for future projects? It does seem odd that the 5900X offers double the cores and threads yet delivers only a slight performance boost.
For gaming: The 5800x3D stands out as the top choice among AMD AM4 chips. (The extra cores found in 5900 or 5950 models don’t really help much for gaming, so they’re not very useful.) In short: games need a certain number of cores to run well, mainly based on the engine used. For example, Minecraft relies almost entirely on one core, CS:GO and many other competitive titles also stick close to that. Some games like Valorant or Fortnite typically use around four cores. High-end titles can handle more, but they’re sparse and spaced out. Cyberpunk and a few others fit this pattern. Cores beyond what the engine actually uses only add little benefit, aside from a small edge.
In short, games typically work best with a limited number of threads. Right now, we often have more processing power than necessary for most jobs. The main reason 59x0 CPUs still outperform smaller ones in these situations is their superior silicon quality, which lets them run faster while using less voltage and heat.
Unless you're already using an am4 12600k, it's the top choice for gaming CPUs. The difference between the two is negligible.
