Thermal pad size for XG7 4090 with TUF waterblock
Thermal pad size for XG7 4090 with TUF waterblock
On the Corsair forum, Corsair Gregx claims every pad is 1mm pads, calling it garbage for the gaming trio.
Check the stock pad thickness using this digital caliper first. The measurement may differ a lot based on the PCB layout, component size, and heatsink shape. It's an affordable option.
guess it is 1mm https://forum.corsair.com/forums/topic/1...nt-1039885
It could be challenging to gauge accurately. You might opt for thermal putty as a simpler solution. https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/tg-pu...tg-p-b-030
It’s simple, just remove the factory pad and check its size, without forcing it in place—it requires some getting used to, but you’ll grasp it fast. What you say matters as well; each option has advantages and disadvantages.
If the cost isn't the main concern, then it's acceptable. However, other factors should be evaluated. Putty fills irregularities more effectively and offers superior thermal characteristics compared to pads, though temperature variations aren't usually substantial. Poor application of putty can cause issues, but using a pad with uniform thickness prevents this and provides stronger mechanical support. Therefore, both options are viable, but putty tends to be significantly more expensive, and you must ensure sufficient quantity is available for the parts.
It seems questionable there. At least a good thermal pad isn't cheap. Putty is simpler when you don't need precise measurements or various sizes. Mechanical stability is uncertain.
