the distinction is truly enormous, so i question it. i never recorded a slow-motion clip of my switch; let me attempt that immediately!

The impact of certain TV programs on everyday audiences is notable. Most television broadcasts operate at 24 frames per second, a long-standing norm in film. However, some shows began broadcasting at 60 fps, which many found odd and unnatural since it deviates from the familiar pace. It's possible that the standard 30 fps setting on TV contributes to the strange appearance of other media.

It's strange, the images show up instantly on the switch while on my PC they appear in a line. It's like my PC blinks and has lines in it, only sometimes and barely noticeable.
I'm comparing them side by side.
Also, how doesn't it feel bad when switching from 120fps Overwatch to 30fps Zelda? And only feels worse when going from 30fps Zelda to 30fps Overwatch or other games? It feels less bad in Disco Elysium, which is slower.
I think it makes sense. PCs handle background tasks differently. There might be some issues with the OS or settings.
Maybe if there was a game we installed like an operating system, it would work better.
I really don't mind it, to be honest! I was just very curious.

Overwatch offers a lot more action, demanding quicker responses and higher input rates. 30fps slows things down significantly for a first-person shooter.

A game such as Dishonored would perform better at lower frame rates, allowing for more deliberate actions. The movement is minimal when you're stealthily taking out one enemy at a time.

Technically, your computer's hardware is using resources. If it struggles with OBS and a game, it likely also struggles at 144Hz. Comparing frame times directly might not give you the full picture, as it doesn't capture all performance aspects.

I don't strongly recommend running PC games at 30fps, as higher refresh rates aren't necessary and could even be counterproductive.

Regarding the screen transition, the entire switch screen updates all at once, which can be noticeable.

prey performs significantly better at 30fps and 30hz. I believe this was the problem! It's smoother than before but looks much better. I'm also curious about witcher, which runs at its max at 30 but I'm trying to figure out why. Would it work the same with 60 for even better results? Probably, with prey it's fine! I have an i5-3570K and an rx480, though my PC often crashes. I think there might be an issue with my motherboard and CPU. It's not just a blue screen, it's more like a strange noise and the power button doesn't work.

Certainly, it's true that an i7 typically manages background tasks more efficiently. However, if your motherboard isn't up to the task or you're considering a strong overclock, your CPU might start showing noticeable performance issues in games.

sometimes the GPU lowers to 50 degrees in Overwatch, but only occasionally. reducing render scale doesn't help either. I can't afford to buy a new CPU and motherboard, so I have to manage it. I own a laptop that I don't like much, but I use it for serious tasks to avoid losing data and for regular work. My laptop has already been sent to warranty for about a month.

It seems I wasn't crazy after all. I looked into it and created a discussion thread. In the ideal scenario, frame pacing wouldn't be perfect—at 30fps it becomes chaotic, but at 45 or more it starts to function. Still, even then it isn't fully technically perfect.

I believe Digital Foundry often uses Nvidia's "Half Refresh" terms, but not every time they explain it fully. Some people still find it clearer than other titles.
