COD 1-2 and to some extent 4 stood out as highly competitive, earning respect in the esports scene during their heyday. However, challenges emerged with the rise of kill streaks in COD4 (also known as MW1 by Activision). This feature transformed the game from a semi-competitive title into an arcade shooter with easy kills. They also removed mod support, which significantly impacted the large community that created mods—especially competitive ones for esports. The removal of dedicated servers further diminished the ability to host tournaments or practice matches, effectively ending the PC-focused esports scene for COD. This shift occurred shortly after the popularity of COD4/MW1 surged, drawing massive player numbers. Tournaments flourished, but the scene quickly became dominated by competitors. This rapid change led many to dismiss COD games as lacking competitive depth, as the core mechanics that drive esports were missing. Originally a mod for Halflife, CS evolved into a competitive first-person shooter, often cited as the gold standard in the genre. To regain that status, COD would need to reintegrate modding support and dedicated servers with robust tournament features. Despite this, many still play COD4 using mods, and there’s interest in a new competitive title. However, Activision is unlikely to embrace modding or dedicated servers, and DLCs have already limited the community’s control over the game. Kill streaks are a minor issue compared to these structural changes, which fundamentally altered COD’s competitive identity.

A few of your comments aren't very strong. Points 7 and 5 highlight that the lack of ammo pickups doesn't diminish its status as an e-sports title—similar to CS, it offers a 7. You can be eliminated instantly by a single shot in CS before you even react, or when you're caught off guard. Still, the ability to purchase armor and a helmet improves your chances of quickly turning around and staying alive. The rest I concur with.

Well, I didn't claim to really enjoy cs:go ^^ but at least health regen isn't an issue there. I'm not familiar with the competitive cod scene, but even without streaks or quick scopes the other nine points still count... That's what I personally dislike about the game, your take might differ. For point seven, camping could work well in cs:go since you don't have to constantly move to collect items. Not the case with games like Quake, where staying still gives you an advantage. Five is also a vulnerability I see in cs:go.

I dislike COD because it's terrible. The SMG's are painfully inaccurate. The sniper rifles have a lot of scope movement issues. Players tend to take advantage of anything they can get to win, instead of relying on real skill. The overall engine is poor—you're expected to be a highly trained operative, but you can only run for about 15 feet before you're exhausted. Grab some weapons, study basic combat tactics, and head into the battlefield. It has its issues too, but at least it looks better, has more characters, and is generally more engaging. Don't forget the vehicles and other features.

this idea fits best with what's available now. it looks like the project is meant for the general audience, not esports, and there hasn't been much support for it. the best move might be to release it on PC and remove console restrictions.

It's really tough. The ranked community feels extremely negative and hostile, almost like dealing with a young person who has anger issues.

I noticed this and instantly thought to myself - arena shooters, that's where true skill shines IMHO

I consistently avoided chatting, focusing on understanding the basics for the champion I picked, but I only played to enjoy myself.

To be honest, CS:S has the most realistic scope wobble. The Scope wobble in COD is outrageous. In reality there is really barely any scope wobble on a sniper at all. Then again, when do you see a sniper standing up scoped in?
