realism isn't the same as competitiveness. balance matters more than just looking realistic. focus on fixing inconsistencies and removing elements that aren't controlled by the player or directly affect them. essentially, avoid features like automatic kills in streaks that make maps easier to win or harder to defend. these kinds of mechanics encourage players to aim carefully and secure targets instead of rushing in. the goal is to reward quick shooting and effective positioning, not just running around and taking down enemies. this approach highlights players who can land their shots efficiently. good setup of zones or teamwork also helps. ------- A game like COD works well if you have options for custom modes that suit your competitive group. However, many developers now rely on DLCs rather than giving players mod capabilities. it’s disappointing because it reduces the value of PC competitive scenes that were so popular and appreciated by many. we PC gamers have genuinely missed something special in our communities, especially at esports or amateur levels. that’s something we can’t ignore.
I don’t harbor any resentment toward COD. It always brings me pleasure when I play those games I like. I’d enjoy playing them more often.
No worries, just don’t think it’s a race to win. I’m always ahead in the lobby after a while.
I have extensive knowledge in competitive gaming (EPS in WC III, KR Amateur League in Starcraft II – until I relocated to Austria for studies). There are several factors making COD unsuitable as a competitive title.
1) Kill streaks: they allow easy eliminations without meaningful defense.
2) Maps: often favor players with similar skill levels, leading to one-sided matches.
3) Ranking system: beginners with experience in other shooters face an automatic disadvantage against stronger opponents.
4) Balance issues: weapon effectiveness varies greatly, with few truly overpowered options.
5) Mod support: the game lacks modding capabilities, preventing adjustments to gameplay elements.
6) Health regeneration: camping becomes feasible, reducing pressure and effectiveness.
7) Auto-aim features: scopes and certain weapons simplify aiming, making it hard to counter effectively.
8) Field of view: most players need a larger or adjustable FOV for optimal play.
9) Strategy depth: while CS offers tactical depth, few games match its complexity.
10) Team dynamics: auto-aim and weapon choices can tilt matches in favor of one side.
Without a focus on competitive balance (such as health regen adjustments), COD falls short for e-sports. While LoL is simpler, it still offers more strategic variety than many top titles like Dota 2.
