The lag spikes appear only in specific zones, creating brief visual pauses. Moving at a slower pace helps bypass the issue. Possible causes include network instability or server load in those areas.

Tested this. I turned settings to lowest. I also set resolution from 900p to 720p. I went to an area with lag spike and sure enough it's still just as bad. I changed two things in my PC recently. I removed an overclock on my CPU and I upgraded my GPU. I hear gtx 10 series plays badly with dark souls. But considering I downscaled the resolution, would you say my CPU is the more likely culprit? Thanks if you've read this far

This section likely contains numerous models, special effects, and rendering images. Adjusting the settings would help.

The lag issue persists even after revisiting the slow section. Returning again clears it unless another level is loaded.

Lag or framedrops? If it's framedrops, reduce a few settings. I'd start with shadows first.
