They replaced the original operating systems on the existing Windows 7 laptops with Chrome OS. This change likely aimed to improve performance or security, though it removed many native features. The Windows 7 logo remains visible on the devices.

I think that's a really stupid decision and I don't know why they did that

My school also uses chromebooks, so you really have to adapt. It's a pretty basic operating system but still functional.

Could it be that the IT team had worries about the Microsoft spyware functionalities?

They seem completely unaware of what they’re doing. It makes sense why they’d try it on new laptops, but using an old Windows 7 serial key and changing it to something rarely used is quite surprising. I’ve been using Windows 7 since it launched in 2010 and still do, honestly think it’s really solid.

I haven’t explored Chrome OS and haven’t heard much about the system monitoring users like Microsoft does. While we’re aware of Google tracking through search results, there are no widespread reports of OS-level surveillance in this context.

They do work too. I run mintlinux on my laptop and feel free to do whatever you wish. It’s not something the NSA can handle. Not really, though I don’t promote it—it’s just safe.

Question everything—every IT group I’ve worked with seems to treat a problem as something minor when it’s not.
