It's generally okay except for titles like Helldivers 2 or Space Marine 2, where damage spikes occur during tough moments—something you often see in games like these. The clear choice would have been the 5700X3D, but its cost has nearly doubled recently. With only two years left on the platform and another until AM6, I don’t think AM5 offers strong value unless there’s a major discount on the 9000 series or later models. I’m considering holding it out unless prices drop significantly. Others in this spot might agree—given its popularity, it’s likely many are thinking the same.
Why is Am5 considered inferior despite its extended support and new CPUs? Your Am4 has been outdated for years. Am5 is the leading choice for gaming right now. It’s unclear why that would be a poor decision. Current bundles offer strong value, especially with prices on non-x3d chips and solid performance. Excellent return on investment.
Nope not planning to move from 5800X3D anytime soon... Contemplating to buy a 4070 super though, but feels like waiting for 9070XT might be worth it... still might end up with a 4070S though... That power draw is just too good. What I'm saying is I think cpus are vastly overestimated, I would rather use my 3600 (beast™) than buy a new one lol. I could use more RAM I'm guessing... 216 seems fair? ~40 less than what I paid for the 5800X3D way back (which was way below msrp tbf) AM5 is just not worth it if you think about it, new mobo, ram...for what... 90% of the time you'll be GPU bound anyway.
You might assume, yet solid evidence and numbers show otherwise. Your beast 3600 performs adequately, but the latest processors offer clear advantages you can't dispute.
I believe the main factor is how you perceive it and how it's shown. Sure, they do, but I can discuss whether it's worth considering... In most situations it probably isn't... CPUs have advanced so much that you usually only need to swap them out every 8-10 years with a good one. GPUs are similar, but now fake generations replace real optimization, pushing you to upgrade sooner. It's an interesting trend. Pbo (negative impact) and it starts using 130w... It's not slower than my 5800x3d, in fact it performs better on certain tests like Superposition.
Hey, what's going on? My 5600 handles things much better than the 3600 and it's not slowing down my RX6800 in most games anymore.
AM4 performs slowly, 5800X3D also lags behind. AM4 previously ran well; now I still have a few AM4 units, but my AM5 is damaging them in various ways.
But is it really necessary? I see framerate chasing as a passion similar to car tuning, yet the reality is most games don’t gain much value or have such minimal demands that even a toaster can handle 240fps (esports). Personally, I favor stock builds; tuning can hurt their worth unless it’s a TVR, where Trevor was too unmotivated to do it xD
