Some BenQ displays appear to require Freesync to achieve the claimed 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rates. Even with Freesync enabled, using the Premium version limits the color depth to 10-bit, which may restrict bandwidth. The Normal setting supports 8-bit color and allows 144Hz. The official manual only lists 144Hz when Freesync is supported. It seems there might be outdated firmware that prevents higher rates. Older models needing the DV-D port for 144Hz are also common. I once owned a 27-inch 1080p monitor with 144Hz G-Sync, which needed DVI-D for that speed. After upgrading to a GTX 1070, the DVI-D was replaced by HDMI/DP, eliminating 144Hz support.

I believe the issue lies in the fact that the drivers are limited to Windows 10, while I'm using Windows 11. I checked a Windows 10 machine and everything functioned fine. I should reach out to BenQ to find out if they intend to release an updated driver. This monitor is roughly four years old—does that really give them ample time to upgrade?
