The RAM slots 1 and 2 are not functioning properly.
I recently replaced my stock CPU cooler with an AIO unit. The process went without issues. I successfully removed the old cooler after several tests to lower the temperature and reduce paste adhesion. However, when starting up, I found my system wouldn’t boot if I used the first or second RAM slots. I verified both RAM sticks in slots 3 and 4, which functioned correctly. I need access to the second slot for dual-channel memory on my board (slots 2-4), but this limitation is preventing me from doing so. Specs: Ryzen 3600, MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC, GTX 1660 Super, Trident Z Neo (2x8GB RAM at 3200MHz).
Try resetting the CMOS first to check for issues. Next, investigate why RAM isn’t installed in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4—your MOBO likely includes a diagram showing the correct placement. It’s also possible the CPU isn’t properly seated, which might prevent proper pin contact and lead to this problem.
I previously reset the CMOS with the jumper and battery removal method.
2. The main focus of my board is on ports 2-4. I can't proceed in 1-3 because some slots aren't working. I also used an internal speaker, which beeped three times.
3. I attempted to re-seat the CPU twice and looked for bent pins.
I attempted single sticks and dual sticks at the same time in slot 1 only = No display RAM in slot 2 only = No display RAM in slot 3 only = Boot RAM in slot 4 only = Boot RAM in slot 1 and 2 = No display RAM in slots 3 and 4 = Boot The EZ debug is illuminating on the DRAM.
After confirming both units can start in 3 and 4 seconds, it may indicate a faulty MOBO. If possible, seek a second opinion and proceed accordingly. It could also be a defective CPU, but it's best to verify first. Always get advice before taking action.
I also think it could be the motherboard or CPU. I’m a bit disappointed upgrading the cooler—it’s really frustrating. Thanks for your feedback; it means a lot.
It's unusual. Have you attempted using single sticks in slots 1 and 2 one by one? If only one works while the other doesn't, that stick is faulty. Edit: Alright, let's move on.
