Someone is asking if people notice a recent rise in RAM costs, particularly for DDR4 and DDR5 types, and they want to know the reason behind it.

DDR4 manufacturing is slowing more quickly than the move toward DDR5. The 64GB ECC DDR4 LRDIMMs I purchased for my home server are now priced double what I paid for them a few months back.

I believe warnings about NAND availability have existed for about a year. The surge in AI infrastructure needs, combined with political issues and tariffs, have driven prices higher.

Pressure from AI data centers mirrors GPU trends. It’s raising costs for both RAM and flash storage like SSDs and NVMe drives.

They're really bad at this. Greed combined with AI is causing problems once more. Costs rise whenever the wealthy attempt to accumulate even more wealth.

Regarding why we should examine the current state of affairs, globalization plays a role in making prices lower, especially in the US. Demand is rising while supply remains insufficient. We have four proposals in Michigan, and at least one community is opposing them. I believe more will join this movement. Many argue they shouldn’t face higher electricity bills, which would be the case if these changes happened. In my view, data centers should be obligated to operate their own power plants to meet their needs.

The sheer volume of money being poured here is completely unrealistic. There are numerous construction initiatives that will take years to finish, yet everyone anticipates the bubble will collapse at any moment. It's unclear how many businesses will fail and how many projects will remain incomplete and abandoned once everything falls apart.

it's strange but the prices have changed a lot for that part. once it was under 100 USD, now it's often above 100 USD.

In the past two weeks I've been monitoring DDR5 stock and now most is unavailable. Costs have also jumped more than half. For instance, a DDR5 2x16GB 6000MT/s CL30 set that once cost around $180 is now selling for $280 or more.

It's surprising considering factors like mining or AI could be involved.
