So far the post has been closed for more replies. I’m facing an issue where I can’t access my local C: drive despite instructions to load from Windows\System32\config. The message says to use C: instead of X:, but I can’t reach it. My other drive (DSmile lacks the System32 folder, and the E: drive only has a recovery.txt file. I need help getting past this step without losing important files. This problem started after using Xbox support—my Xbox App and MS Store login failed, so the advice from X/Twitter didn’t work.

It seems the disk isn't loading properly. 1. Try running DiskPart and view the results: diskpart list disk, select disk X, partition # Replace X with your C drive's disk number. 2. Also run chkdsk and check the output: chkdsk C: /r. If the drive is BitLocker protected, you'll need to unlock it using manage-bde -unlock C: -RecoveryPassword [RecoveryKey].

In WinRE the boot device doesn't display your standard labeling but it must remain the same storage location

Hey, thank you for the reply but i cannot seem to get past the BitLocker part. I might be hella dumb but on the aka.ms recovery key page, it shows only the key and the short ID, so the password part might be why it showed “Invalid Syntax”?

Maybe the situation is different, and your WinRE registry editor should let you reach the "SOFTWARE" file in the config folder without issues. Some users fixed the problem by switching from Boot X: drive to a local C: drive. Since the X: drive is often seen as a special version of Windows, changing that path might help.

The issue lies in the incorrect command input.

BitLocker key should resemble this manage-bde -unlock C: -RecoveryPassword 123456-123456-123456-123456-123456-123456-123456-123456 There are no minus signs at the beginning

Sorry for the delayed response (I was at a festival), but honestly, you're amazing and we're all legends. It's frustrating when you follow a guide step by step only to realize something is missing. The disk is unlocked. I'll keep you posted as I work on solving my main challenge of logging into my computer.
