Hi all, I've built a budget PC for my son using bits of things I had lying around (and a couple of cheap purchases). But it's not running great and I wonder if someone could advise me on any upgrades I should do to improve things, Here's the set up
MSI Z390 motherboard
i9 9900k CPU
Stock fan
1080ti GPU
Corsair RM850X
500gb SSD
Corsair Vengence DDR4 16gb (2x8gb)
I notice the GPU hardly gets utilised at all, but the CPU is hot and maxed out, I'd have thought an i9 9900k would be ok? It's the best CPU I can get with this motherboard.
He only plays fortnight pretty much, and has a 1080p 240hz monitor.
What do you guys think? Is the fan not up to it? Does an upgraded fan make that much difference?

Thanks for the advice, I'll check that fan out. The rest of the setup seems fine. I understand the game requires significant CPU power, but I thought an i9 9900k would suffice. Since it's boosted to 5GHz, I plan to disable it to see if temperatures stabilize until I can replace the fan.
are you certain the display is linked to the GPU rather than the rear I/O via the CPU?
a basic fan adjustment won't significantly help.

Hey everyone, the new fan (Be Quiet Pro Rock 2) is installed and the CPU is running much cooler now (up to 70%). I was planning to follow the MSI guide to set the CPU to 5MHz and also optimize the RAM. But now I'm experiencing random crashes, so I need to lower the OC. Anyone know where to find the best settings for an i9 9900k on a MSI Z390 besides the MSI website?

For instance, my R5 3600 runs at 4.4ghz @1.26 on one motherboard, but only 1.29v on another.
