The new rig isn't functioning properly.
Hey everyone, I just assembled a budget gaming rig to play games at 1080p with 60 frames per second. With limited funds, I wanted a decent setup for gaming, but I’m finding it doesn’t quite meet expectations. While watching a benchmark video of someone running Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I noticed their system had an i7 3770 non-K and an RX 480. I upgraded to an Xeon 1230 v2, which should match the i7’s performance but only about 10% lower. I decided to test it myself by running the same benchmark and checked my frame rates. The results weren’t what I hoped for. Here’s what I got: Xeon 1230 v2 stock cooler, RX 580 4G, 8GB RAM, 1333MHz. The benchmark used an i7 3770 non-K, RX 480, 4GB RAM, 1600MHz. I’m surprised my GPU usage was higher than CPU usage at the end, and I saw my CPU hovering around 3492MHz, then jumping to 3592MHz and dropping back down. I also noticed the benchmark forced Ultra Texture, which I didn’t enable since my VRAM is only 4GB and could get saturated. What’s going on here? I know it’s not the best machine, but I feel like it should be running better. What do you think is causing this?
When your GPU operates at 1300MHz while another is boosted to 1450MHz, a 10% variation is completely typical.
The GPU is operating at 1400 while the CPU is running at 200 MHz slower than its speed.
