I favor the BIOS because the final temperatures might have issues with outside programs.
I use HWINFO. I recently returned my OC to stock (2.4Ghz) and downloaded HWINFO, which shows 40-42°C at idle. How could a Q6600 be that not hot? I heard it’s a pretty hot CPU. (UPDATE) I just ran the CPU under load and it reached 55-57°C on a stock cooler. Is that good? Should I really trust it? A lot of people say different things, which is confusing for me.
I don't claim it's the best, but it's what I rely on; otherwise I switch to BIOS or AIDA Extreme.
The Tj. Max in Core Temp 1.6 seems inaccurate. The correct value is 80°C for the Core2 Quad Q6600 (Kentsfield) B3 Revision.

I favor the BIOS because the definitive temps might have issues with external software. So I think I can overclock my CPU now that I know my actual temperatures, which I've been trying to determine for a few weeks. Thank goodness it's finally resolved.
