They still have the SSD, though it's been reset and reinstalled numerous times before

That seems more an issue with windows booting, I can load in to windows with no issue, its just getting the GPU to be detected. Unless ive missed something in the article
Navigate to the computer manufacturer's website. Locate your PC model and then the GPU driver information. Visit the device manager to confirm the GPU appears there. Before installing, verify your BIOS settings to ensure auto-detect is activated.
