My mining rig isn't responding this morning. I discovered it stuck on the boot screen, and even after turning it off and back on, it didn't wake up. I checked everything—replaced RAM sticks, used only one in each slot, disabled GPU and graphics, swapped GPUs, changed power supplies, cleared CMOS, tried with another PSU, and even used a different motherboard. It kept beeping intermittently but didn’t flash any error codes. The board itself is old, from around 2013-2014, part of a prebuilt system that was taken apart. It might be stuck due to disconnected components, security locks, or compatibility problems. I’m running out of ideas and almost plan to take it to a local tech shop. The HDMI cable seems fine, though it worked before and is connected to another PC without issues.
I experienced a system shutdown due to a failing splitter card, even when nothing was connected. Over three weeks of repeated use, it eventually led to a boot failure after hanging the setup more often. Once it broke down completely, I could identify the issue but had already replaced most components with a more reliable setup. So, what hardware are you working with? Which part is currently malfunctioning?
Identify the issue carefully. I've attempted the configuration on a different motherboard, but it emitted an angry beep as noted in the guide. The motherboard in question is also very old, originating from a prebuilt system that has been dismantled. This means it might not be a straightforward case. There are likely other problems affecting the hardware connected, possibly due to its age and previous modifications. The current motherboard lacks flashing indicators and the speaker does not emit a beep.
4790 functions similarly to Haswell 2.0, which suggests it might fail to boot on another board because of BIOS mismatches. Consider using a different cable and monitor, though it should still start up and boot without one. I often run multiple PCs without screens.
I never changed the CPU, I’m not sure if it works but it definitely doesn’t transmit any signal. The GPUs heat up and their fans spin (the 3060 Ti stops doing so, being less aggressive than the 3080 Ti which keeps spinning). I’ve tried a different cable, same problem.
Purchased a genuine mining rig, old but hopefully functional... It comes with the CPU, RAM, and more. If it doesn’t work, I’m just going to be really frustrated... xD
Eh mining is slowly ending anyway, it's not worth fretting about. I'm doing 100mhs at 360W from the wall at $0.08 USD per KWh and making between $1.50 to $2.00 a day right now. It's hardly worth it anymore for me. I'll have broken even or maybe made some money at the depending on what prices are doing.
