It simply indicates the motherboard is receiving power and the switch functions correctly.
If I may inquire, the reason behind attempting to operate this outdated machine seems to be either the pursuit of a challenge, a longing for nostalgia, or the need to retrieve information.
According to what was mentioned before, it seems like a CPU or motherboard issue.
A bit of everything here, plus some guidance on how to fix things.
It’s not too hard compared to the problem I’m facing right now. The system I used has been running smoothly for more than ten years, but one day it just refused to start. Getting at the parts is a breeze.
I placed an order for a power supply earlier today; it should arrive next week. If that doesn’t work, I’d consider swapping it in with an E8400 or something similar for $7.
Thank you
Yes, I understand regarding the power supply, but I think there might be four separate voltage circuits in the supply and possibly one is faulty, which is uncommon but possible.
It has an AMI BIOS and it's a ThinkCenter Lenovo IBM model. Error codes for AMI and IBM both reference the power supply or MB/CPU for a continuous beep.
I will share my findings soon...
I plan to open a new thread about CPU choices, as this unit comes with an E8400 and I'm unsure about the best replacement options if the power supply doesn't resolve the issue.
