Hold on a bit longer. New Ryzen 4000 chips are expected soon, and prices for existing CPUs might drop. Right now isn’t the best moment to purchase any PC components. New NVIDIA products will launch in the near future, with Ryzen/Intel models arriving next weeks.
Choose a 3300x if you're limited to a single CPU purchase. You won't need to replace the motherboard. While the 4000 series is decent, you'll still require a new board.

I’m hoping for a CPU and RAM bundle priced between $350-400 CAD, which translates to roughly $120 CAD. I’m checking Amazon right now. On Amazon.com (US), the cheapest option is $152.50 USD, about $214 CAD from third-party sellers both available and backordered—May 15th is due, June 15th for the other. In Canada (CA), the lowest I see is $241.41 from a third-party seller, not available through Amazon, while Amazon warehouse listings show one at $247.66 in good condition. These amounts are higher than what a Ryzen 3 3300X would cost.

Memory Express is currently out of stock online for $260, matching Canada Computers pricing. Newegg.ca lists it at $280 and Amazon.ca has it back-ordered with delivery by May 29th for $280.
Newegg occasionally lists deals around $150. Currently it's offered for $20 more than a 3700x price, but often drops to $150 if you keep monitoring. You'd be wise to stay below $3300, especially for 5th generation chips or similar models. Prices tend to fall in the fall once the new model is announced, possibly even on the exact release date. Sellers usually aim to sell older inventory before the launch. If you're considering a 3000 series, make sure the chip is compatible with your system before purchasing. Not all B350 motherboards support every Ryzen 3000 chip.
