So...my 2022 Asus ROG Flow X16 is fine otherwise. The only issue is the 3.5mm combo jack—it claims to support a headset with a microphone, but it just shows the headphones. The mic doesn’t appear at all, even when connected. I also tried using USB-C to 3.5mm adapters, but nothing worked. On the second photo it appears, yet it still says not plugged in. Any thoughts on what might be wrong or possible fixes? Note: the descriptions in the photos are in Slovene.

USB to 3.5mm converters come in two types: passive and active. The passive model lacks digital-to-analog conversion and amplification, relying solely on the phone’s built-in sound circuitry. The active version includes an AMP/DAC module and can function without the host device providing audio over USB. A passive adapter won’t work with a PC, and it’s generally unsuitable for most smartphones or tablets either. Active adapters are versatile and would be identified as a dedicated audio device, such as a sound card.

I've mentioned there are two kinds. The passive form shows up more often with certain devices. If you connect it to USB and it doesn<|pad|>, it's likely passive.

It employs a four-pole jack or two three-pole units—separate headphones and microphone.

The thicker cable originates from the headset and then I connect it using the separator that came with it to the computer.

Well, if you opt for that... Green is the headphones. Pink is the microphone. And when the laptop has just one combined input/output, you don't need the Y splitter.
