I brought a specialist to check why my connection stays at 50 Mbps across all devices. He measured 200 Mbps for him and on my phone too, but my computer still showed the same speed. After he left, I tried testing it again and it fell back to 50 Mbps. What’s happening?

I'm not entirely confident, but your TP-Link internet booster lets you use a shorter Ethernet cable instead of a 20-meter one.

It's likely the booster is the problem, particularly if it doesn't align with the router's wireless protocols (like 802.11g versus 802.11ac). Wireless signals tend to weaken as distance increases. If feasible, attaching a simple parabolic antenna to the booster and directing it toward the router can improve the connection and restore some speed.

However, my phone is nearly achieving the same link once he departed while my computer did not.

It's difficult to identify the issue without more details about your environment. If your devices use wireless connections, that's probably the cause of slow speeds. If the problem occurred with wired connections, it might be related to your internet service provider.

However, the web speed was top-tier at 200mbps when the expert from Virgin Media arrived and ran the test

Intermittent problems are a common challenge in networking. Without additional details, providing meaningful solutions isn't feasible.

Testing wireless performance while positioned nearby the router reveals variations in speed. Adjusting the Wireless channel can help identify interference sources. The fastest method to determine whether the issue lies with your ISP, router, or external factors is to connect directly via Ethernet to the router without using a repeater and then perform speed testing.

The technician might have arrived when you weren’t usually there, since your neighbors with similar setups tend to use their connections outside regular working hours.
