I bought a new laptop recently. It’s a Lenovo Legion Y520 with an i5-7300hq processor and a 1050 chipset with 16GB DDR4 2400, running dual channel. My base clock is 2.5GHz, which boosts to 3.1GHz in Pro but drops to 1.8GHz during gaming. Temperatures stay between 55°C and 65°C on the CPU and 60–65°C on the GPU. I’ve tried undervolting, overvolting, adjusted turbo boost power, and reinstalled Windows, updating drivers and BIOS.

Some Lenovo laptops begin to slow down the CPU right away when you start gaming. Since you've already noticed this issue, try removing Intel XTU first. Intel's 7th Gen CPUs include a feature named Speed Shift Technology. I would begin by activating it through ThrottleStop. Open the TPL window, verify the Speed Shift option, and press Apply. Also, ensure the "Enable Speed Shift when ThrottleStop starts" is selected. Click OK and return to the main interface. If enabled properly, the SST indicator should display green. The value next to SST can be modified. EPP stands for Energy Performance Preference; adjusting it to 0 forces maximum performance, while 80 matches Windows' balanced setting. A higher number (128) offers a more balanced approach but may restrict peak speed. Exceeding 255 slows the CPU noticeably. Resetting EPP to 0 can improve responsiveness.
