The i5-4670K is experiencing crashes while running Prime95.
I am just starting with overclocking and after my first attempt I reached 4.3ghz @ 1.25V
My current specs:
CPU: i5-4670k
COOLER: 212evo
MOBO: Z87X-UD3H-CF
RAM: Corsair Vengence 2x4GB (set to 1600mhz)
PSU: CX600
I managed to boot and run cinebench and played GTA:V for a long time. Temperatures were 45 when idle and 75 under load. Then I downloaded Prime95, did the blend test and it froze and triggered a BSOD. I tried again with 4.2ghz @ 1.2 and still got the BSOD. I also disabled EIST and c1e.
Later I reset my BIOS to default and tested the blend test on Prime95 again. After about 15 minutes of stress testing, no errors appeared.
I’m planning to overclock my PC but don’t know where to begin.
Their ya go OVERHEATING
1 your CPU cooler is not mounted right.
2 you forgot the thermal paste.
3 see 1 and 2.
4 Slight chance your motherboard is putting way to much voltage to the processor.
It's overheating at 3.4ghz with the current stock setup, and I'm using a 212evo cooler. Should I consider upgrading to a CPU cooler?
It's overheating at 3.4ghz with stock settings, and I'm using a 212evo cooler. Should I consider upgrading to a CPU cooler? Your post suggests checking if the cooler isn't installed properly or if the thermal paste was omitted.
Everything is in order, double-checked, and yes I have after-market thermal paste on.
When running at stock settings, performance drops significantly; ideally aim for around 60°C at most. With a cooler set to mid-50s, your device will operate more stably. The crashing is due to overheating—processors are designed not to run close to 98°C, as that would cause throttling and damage.
Verify your backplate and ensure the fan is installed properly, directing airflow through the heatsink.
