Hey everyone, after purchasing the R9 270 with 2GB RAM, it performed worse than my old GTX 750 Ti with 1GB. When I installed MSI Afterburner, the GPU showed only 0-30% usage. I looked up possible reasons and found two explanations. It might be due to a slow processor (mentioned in a video) or memory issues reported elsewhere. To figure out which is correct, you can check reliable sources or benchmarks without wasting time on unnecessary hardware changes.
Open your game in borderless window mode and ensure Task Manager is running. Observe which processes consume the most resources and check if your CPU only uses one thread, or if your core speed isn’t sufficient. List the rest of your system—confirm your RAM isn’t single-channel and verify there’s no overheating from Afterburner.
1. Tap on performance
2. Select processor
3. Right-click the area to view logical processors, revealing all your cores and threads.
I have a machine with an Intel i5-3340 processor, 10 GB of memory, 8 GB of RAM, and a R9 270 graphics card.
You clicked the right-click menu and chose logical processors.
Maybe the issue is with the GPU instead of the CPU. Even if your CPU is limiting performance, it shouldn't cause such poor results. I have a setup similar to yours and can still play Cyberpunk 2077 at medium resolution with stable frame rates. Yes, my E3-1225 v2 struggles significantly with that frame rate. Instead, monitor GPU temperatures and check if fans are making noise—this becomes more obvious during demanding games.
You're stuck with a CPU issue, but that's accurate. Make sure to verify the temperatures as well as whether the GPU fans are running.
The conditions are stable, the CPU threshold is set at 67°C, yet it only reaches 60°C.
