Hey there, thinking about grabbing the guild wars 2 digital deluxe edition while it's on sale? I'm looking for some quick thoughts before I commit. I've played games like World of Warcraft for years, but I'm not big on the monthly fees. I'm open to premium content like XP boosters, armor skins, or general gear upgrades, but I don't want to pay for everything. I enjoy raid bosses and dungeon exploration for loot. A solid crafting system near the end of the game would be great, plus some customization options to make me stand out a bit. Any suggestions or feedback from the community would be awesome!

I enjoy Guild Wars 2, but if you're drawn to the "giant raid boss" dungeons, it might not suit you. The single-player narrative is decent, and there are some 5-man dungeons that work well. There aren't any raids, so it isn't a major PvE raiding experience. Its main appeal comes from competitive PvP and server battles.

I'm not sure about it. It was an enjoyable game, but I haven't played it in a while. I might lend you my account if you're interested, but I'll need to reset the password first so you don't find out. You'll be using the EU server. Let me know if you're keen.

I've played since the beta. As the others said, don't expect to find raids or (for the most part) raid boss-style encounters. Most of the PvE content is either in the decent-but-limited 5-man dungeons or in persistent open-world content. They also have a system called the "living world" that theoretically adds new story-driven content to the game every two weeks. The living world used to be somewhat poor, but is shaping up rather nicely at the moment if you're comfortable dropping in to a story part-way through. You can easily avoid PvP, but as a PvE player myself, I can say that you may find the world vs. world PvP format to be very approachable and enjoyable. I should also mention the game's technical optimization is poor. Even if you have a high-end Core i5/i7 rig, expect to be CPU-limited down into the 40 FPS range at times when you are in combat with big chaotic groups. To my knowledge, no consumer-available CPU can keep GW2 at 60 FPS at all times. The game's currently $20. For that, I think you'd easily get your money's worth even if you just leveled to 80 and quit. I would not bother with the Digital Deluxe edition, as the added items aren't terribly exciting in my opinion.

It's incredibly dull. You seem to be going through the motions without any real sense of impact. Trying to make the game more efficient has led to a monotonous, lifeless environment—just beautiful on paper but lacking substance.

Guild Wars 2 focuses more on competitive play versus other players than on cooperative efforts. It seems to outperform ESO in PVE, though if you prefer cooperative adventures, options like WoW, Wild Star, S.T.A.R. Online and Tera are available. The progression system in GW2 offers a more enjoyable experience compared to WoW. Equipment here leans toward cosmetic items rather than high-end gear. It’s far from a pay-to-win model. I never paid upfront and spent months building a warrior/rifle/greatsword setup with food boosts in WvW, though I did farm gold for a few weeks to obtain a legendary item. While it looks impressive, I think the sniper rifle version is better. I’m unsure if that build still functions properly (I used shield axe/sword in battlefields), but it was quite entertaining. I haven’t played much lately, but WvW remains enjoyable. As mentioned, it’s quite challenging. With an I7 K you’re covered, but sticking to an I5 K in regular matches probably won’t be great—many quit because of that.

The game doesn't have enough threading to clearly benefit an i7 over an i5. In my understanding, i7s don't significantly improve performance and usually lag behind around the 40s with large zerg swarms. But considering GW2 standards, it's still decent. <_<

I handle performance drops well. It's been the same problems before, so I expected them in MMOs too. I'm thinking about Wildstar but dislike their monthly fees since it feels like a commitment I can't break. With this attitude, I don't really enjoy playing much and feel like I'm just playing for the money. A coworker mentioned he owns it and lets me test it out tonight before I decide. Even if I only play to reach the level cap and enjoy some casual content, that money seems well spent.
