Tom Hardware rumors about the 4th generation suggest a possible downgrade. I’m hoping this isn’t accurate. EDIT* for those unfamiliar or who skimmed—this covers APU boards, not full desktop CPUs... My mistake! Updated May 22, 2020 by Snowmnason Misunderstanding

This appears to apply only to B550 motherboards, also known as the budget models. The x570, being the more costly option, already includes this feature and will maintain it.

Sure thing!
5.0 isn't available yet. 4.0 is the latest version, and 3.0 is the previous one.

Are you sure about your words before hitting send? The document is nearly complete after about 18 months.

I hadn’t realized 5.0 was available. Sorry about that. The article also mentions it will mostly run in data centers, while consumer devices will continue using 4.0 for now.

PCIe 4 took nearly three years to reach a stable version before being adopted in products. Calling it final doesn’t indicate it’s close to everyday use.

For the APU, it's conceivable they don't employ the IO die that facilitates PCIe 4.0 on Matisse, as most regular Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs do support it.
