Restoring CMOS will bring BIOS back to its original state, with no harmful effects except possibly needing to reactivate XMP or OC features. Make sure to back up your data as if copying it to another drive—this will require a second storage device. Don’t save changes in Windows settings; the system will reinstall everything using a "Windows media" USB stick. This process is ideal for personal files, game saves, and documents.
The Windows Media USB stick is a portable device that stores media files for easy access. You can purchase it from various online retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, or directly from the manufacturer’s website. Since you already have Windows 10, you won’t need to buy it again unless you want additional features or storage.
Based on your request, gather a USB drive with at least 8GB capacity. Download the Windows installation files from the official Microsoft website and follow the instructions to install them onto your device.
Recently, possibly over the past weeks, my computer has been experiencing recurring issues, especially when playing video games. During these moments, textures fail to load correctly—sometimes distorted, sometimes low resolution or invisible. Audio problems appear too, with glitches or complete loss. My system slows down noticeably, though not uniformly; the Task Manager becomes extremely sluggish and nearly unusable for closing games, yet Discord still functions, albeit with all images failing to load. The web browser works fine, but closing tabs makes it unresponsive. After prolonged troubleshooting, the game crashes and performance improves afterward. These problems aren’t limited to one title; they occur across multiple games. It seems like a driver or hardware fault, possibly related to the GPU or SSD, though no error messages appear. Could it be a failing graphics card, faulty storage, or even a virus? Help would be appreciated!
Yeah well I don't really know what other info could be useful at all. Here is a screenshot of the victory screen in apex legends. Obviously it is not supposed to look like that, the word victory is in the wrong place, extremely low res, and everything else is just blue. But I still have 144fps as can be seen top left corner. As I said when this starts happening many other programs on my pc become unresponsive as well. My specs: rtx 3070 5800x3D main drive is 960 evo SSD from 2017 Almost all games are installed on a kingston nvme ssd of less than a year old. 16gb ram 3200mhz 750w psu gpu is undervolted with tiny overclock. Has been running great for about 2 years now (was second hand) almost all components are less than 2 years old, with exception of main drive. drivers are up to date. As I said I dont get a blue screen with an error code I can share or anything like that. The computer just basically starts malfunctioning and I am having a very hard time figuring out the cause.
Initial Kingston SSDs tend to be unreliable and should be swapped out. It's normal for them to function briefly before failing unexpectedly. Consider using a Samsung Evo instead. Additionally, the mention of OC/undervolting suggests instability, possibly causing graphical or audio issues. Resetting the GPU to factory defaults, restarting the PC, and testing games afterward could help. Replacing the SSD is highly recommended.
But why did my GPU settings become unstable? It functioned smoothly for two years. My guess was that a failing drive might be the issue—specifically, the Kingston drive seemed to fail only when a game was running on it. Other programs like Task Manager also stopped working properly, which isn’t something you’d expect from Kingston drives. Additionally, CrystalDisk is showing no errors, though it didn’t display the Kingston drive during my first use of a Crystal Disk under such conditions.
