Yes, you're correct. It should work that way. Since the AP indicates it can't locate the file or directory, the extraction might have failed. You likely used a different method—perhaps tar -xtract PATH-TO-IMAGE.tar flash to properly extract the archive. Check the folder named "ap3g1-k9w7-mx.153-3.JF15" for any files inside.

k9w8 represents the CAPWAP/controller mode, while k9w7 is the lightweight mode. A conversion exists, but it's unclear if any preparation is needed before booting the lightweight image.

I used the instructions from the link you shared. I followed their steps exactly, but now I have a different version.

For autonomous mode, stick with one of the k9w8 images but booting from a k9w7 image is lighter and needs a controller. (Or at least I believe I have the W8 and W7 setups correct) Edit: nvm, I had them swapped.

I'll check if the files are in the correct subdirectory and see if they exist, then attempt to reload the software again.

You're experiencing a 404 error when trying to configure in the webgui, even after formatting and re-uploading the file. It seems some versions of the software might have bugs. Have you tried reaching out to the developers or checking community forums for similar issues with the AP3g1-k9w7-tar version?
