The BIOS continues to restart repeatedly over the past week.
Good evening, my setup uses an ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E paired with an i7 10700k. The issue is that the BIOS frequently resets back to default settings. Over the past two years I maintained the same overclocking configuration without any major changes. Recently, after changing one setting last week, the system booted into an F1 and F3 menu. Days later I suspected a CMOS battery problem because the date and time kept resetting. After replacing the CMOS, I reset the BIOS to default and enabled XMP 1—then it shut down completely. Now whenever I power it on for the first time of the day, it restarts again. It seems to happen when the system powers off overnight and then comes back on after a few hours without being used. The latest BIOS update from Intel appears to be applied.
Verify if the battery is genuinely 3V using a multimeter. If not, it likely indicates a hardware issue.
I just took out the new CMOS and it now has a sticky label with child-proof text. After removing the sticker, the reading is 3..29v. It looks like the sticky on the battery might have been the issue. I’ll keep an eye on it for a day or so to see if it works.
