I just installed it into the APK section of my Dile Manager and wondered about the download process!

They should handle common threats just as you did. I think you're okay.
You can always reset your phone and restore your saved data. If you haven't backed up your device, you should start doing so.

This should be safe on its own. I’d verify the app settings to confirm no automatic downloads occur. Please confirm before proceeding.

I am really sorry for the delay in responding.
To install what is needed, do I understand correctly?
I’ve asked multiple technicians, and they warned me that upgrading could result in losing my data unless I have a backup.
Besides the Android version, is there another way to update or receive my Android? Is it possible to get the latest security updates or other updates without upgrading?

Android 9 is quite outdated and less secure than newer releases. I suggest upgrading your device.
Concerning permissions and prompts, yes. The download itself doesn’t always indicate further action was needed. You’d typically need to open or permit the installation.

Android 9 came out in 2018. Your device probably can't get the newest updates anymore. You might want to consider getting a new phone or reducing its usage.
