I've been away from the best CPU choices lately, especially for speed and efficiency. Let's discuss how multi-tasking affects different processors and whether certain models are overkill. If you're thinking about long-term use or compatibility with future software, the 10900 and 3950x might be too demanding.

It's quite an exciting combination of Chrome and Discord video calls.

It's not just a joke, you're still in the game. Even the 3100s have solid IPC, great IMCs, decent FCLK, and acceptable latency. It's pretty solid and affordable.

Completely fine, nothing like that. My laptop runs an i5 6300U and I’m a sys admin handling multiple apps simultaneously. Google Chrome with several tabs, an IP phone for calls, Teams for meetings and video calls, RDM with several remote sessions, Outlook, Keepass, Notepad++... I think I might be missing something. Apart from the slow internet, everything works just fine for my daily tasks. If a dual-core mobile CPU suffices, a quad-core should definitely cover it.

Discord and Discord with video chat behave quite differently regarding CPU consumption. That said, I’m using an FX-3600, which performed poorly at launch. Overall, I’m in agreement.

They’re actually the same. A dual-core CPU isn’t just extra—it’s sufficient for Chrome and Spotify too.

Works smoothly even on dual-core systems.

Your budget CPU still handles the task despite its reduced clock speed from the power-saving plan. What makes sense is why you question it.
