I agree, working from home often means juggling multiple tabs and applications while managing spreadsheets and documents at the same time.

He’s really not getting good performance for the money. A higher-end setup would likely offer better speed and satisfaction while costing less.

On the CPU side, this could work (about four years). The GPU you’re considering is likely to be outdated—some models won’t handle 4K at 60fps even now. The 3090 may struggle with full-featured 4K performance on certain games.

I understand what you're saying, but at that moment I could join the queue for the 3090 and was looking for a new GPU. I had saved money for either a 3080 or 3090, so personally it didn’t impact my budget.

Consider purchasing a 5900X and an RTX 6800 XT. This setup works well for 4K and could evolve into something better over time, perhaps reaching 3 to 5 years. You might find it seamless to pair them without any performance issues. 4K demands are also quite high. The 7800 XT or 4080 would definitely outperform the 3090 in this scenario.

I recommend 5900x, though you believe 5800x is acceptable. Proceed with that.

I'm just saying cpu bottleneck is the worst, you can't just lower settings, you're stuck not being able to do anything but buy a new cpu... So if you at all can afford it you should get one of the top 5 cpus Iinked above (there's only one Ryzen, 2 if you count top 6...)

Considering a switch to a new CPU, it might be wiser to assemble a PC from scratch rather than just updating.
