TF2 VAC ban wave
TF2 VAC ban wave
I watched PyroJoe's video about a VAC ban wave that affected hundreds of thousands of bots at 1.4K to 1.6K in TF2. On Reddit, someone mentioned Value might be close to finishing Half Life: Alyx, which could mean the team controlling the VAC bans might reintroduce cheating bot bans. Could this signal a major update?
It seems the person responsible for VAC bans is likely developers who would be useful for Half Life Alyx. Valve would be crazy to assign actual developers to something as basic as checking VAC reports instead of focusing on more important tasks. VAC bans occur because people are found guilty of cheating. You might get flagged on the first day, but a ban could happen on day 65, since they tend to ban in waves after a certain period. It's strange, but that's how it works.
the concept is that executing in waves complicates it for bot/hack creators to pinpoint what triggered the alert, which in theory could help them remain undetected in future attempts.
What's the value when the game is truly free? They can create a new Steam account and start hacking immediately, as they won't face bans soon. That kind of approach could work in a paid game with a "barrier," but not here.
Absolutely, I'm in full agreement. That's just one of the reasons, and there are likely more factors at play from a business perspective. It seems they might use bots or similar tools to increase the number of active players for better appearances to investors. Once their numbers look strong enough, they might remove them. But that's probably just a clever trick—just a bit of "tin-foil hat" thinking.
