Operating a Ryzen 7 4800H at 102 °C is very near the maximum limits (105°C) and may significantly speed up long-term wear. Temperatures above 100°C can hasten electromigration inside the chip, lowering its lifespan and stability. Even without immediate throttling, this is harmful. The VRM units close to the CPU can also overheat from heat radiation and restricted airflow, particularly in laptops, which reduces performance and may cause instability or early failure. RAM modules in laptops are often positioned near the CPU/GPU; without adequate cooling, they can reach temperatures that raise error rates. Over time, sustained high temps can harm RAM, potentially causing crashes under heavy load or leading to motherboard damage—such as affecting PCB layers, BGA solder joints, and possibly warping components. What are your SSD and RAM load temperatures? How much warmer is the GPU compared to its hotspot? VRAM temperature? If the gap exceeds 15°C, the thermal paste may be degraded or the heatsink pressure incorrect; ideally, keep it under 10°C.

Commercial pads perform poorly since the fans lack significant static pressure. Their main role is lifting the laptop from the table, and they help the fans draw air more effectively—nothing further. If you prefer not to modify your setup, opt for a reliable pad such as IETs 500/600 or similar. They cost more, but they function properly.
