It’s not unusual for a 5-year-old to experience a CPU temperature near 102°C, but it depends on the device and usage. Keep monitoring and ensure proper cooling.

It varies—check your current activity and the processor model in your system.

Welcome to the discussions! This seems unusual. Typically, processors handle temperatures between 90°C and 100°C. 102°C might be too high. Could you share the complete specifications or the Omen 15 model number for reference?

I'm in the lobby for Valorant, using Discord and Opera GX. The CPU is a Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon graphics.

It’s unusual and likely requires cleaning, removing dust, etc. It could also stop working properly if used on soft surfaces like lap pads or pillows. Yes, it can definitely happen. Laptops often overheat due to the balance between performance and limited space.

CPU model: Ryzen 7 4800H
GPU: 2060
Memory: 16GB RAM
Note: I’m unsure about XMP settings, though I’ve heard they can raise temperatures.

I cleaned it out about 2-3 months ago and it was placed on a cooling pad.

The TJMax for that CPU is 105°C, meaning 102°C fits the requirements. It runs hot, but since it's a high-performance laptop chip, meeting the spec is acceptable. It's not perfect, but it shouldn't be an issue.

You may consider swapping the thermal paste as suggested by the review. This situation seems to generate significant heat even when playing Valorant and Discord. A strong 95 load plus some dust buildup only pushed the CPU to 86°C in a modest room temperature. Given it's been around four years, a refurbishment could be worthwhile. Although this laptop has an efficient CPU that doesn’t overheat much, the high temperatures indicate there’s likely still some dust or a need for a refresh. This is typical for a gaming machine after three years—usually it’s okay to have it repaste.
