When the loads match, skip the idle times. Some days I run at 40, other times at 60—it's just random noise in the background.

Sorry for bringing this to your attention. Essentially, I adjusted the refresh rate in the NVIDIA control panel, which led me to perform a fresh installation of my driver. After the update, the idle and browsing temperatures no longer stayed at 50°C as before—they dropped to around 40°C. I suspect the driver might be causing an unexpected increase in background idle temperatures after installation. This might help others facing similar issues.
