I'm looking for help. Honestly, I lack experience with overclocking or undervolting. I need to tackle this issue on my own first. Should I reinstall Windows now? Since I didn't reinstall after changing the processor and motherboard.
You don't need to reinstall Windows just to switch from AMD to another AMD model. I've experimented with overclocking before, but not much since Zen 2 didn't really benefit from it. I haven't adjusted the CPU voltage much before, but this was simple enough that it felt like a no-brainer. It's not an overclock in the traditional sense; it's about reducing the power entering the chip, which also cuts down on heat. Once the chip has more than the default amount, it can handle higher speeds. The only risk is if the CPU isn't getting enough power, which would happen if you reduced the voltage too much. It's a good idea to run some stress tests to confirm stability, but otherwise everything should be fine.
You might not need to reinstall Windows, but it's usually a good idea. Otherwise, double-check that all hardware components—chipset, LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.—are removed properly. Even after that, unexpected problems and driver conflicts can still occur.
Actually, the opposite is true. Ryzen takes advantage of extra power and heat capacity to push performance higher even when all cores are active. As I mentioned earlier, I’m now achieving nearly 5GHz on a single core, which is close to the stock 4.8GHz (stock was around 4.75GHz). Since single-core speed matters most for gaming, this means a strong overclock that you’d rarely reach with all cores together.
Thanks for the support. After reinstalling Windows, temperatures have improved significantly—now around 48-60 during idle (47-55) which is much better than before. But when playing Far Cry 5, temps stay steady at 76-79, and GTA 5 at 61-63. Is it okay to aim for 80°C while gaming? I want to check Horizon Zero Dawn. It’s still running in stock mode.
