System starts in 3 seconds and stops immediately afterward

Hi everyone, I've been using my system for four years and everything was fine until yesterday. After a two-day trip, I came back home but it wouldn't boot at all—nothing happened when trying to power it on. When I unplugged and plugged the power cable back in, the fans (including the CPU) spun up for three seconds before shutting down again. I tried booting it again later, and it worked for about an hour before shutting itself off. Leaving it plugged in, it attempted to restart after a few minutes and then shut down after three seconds. I suspect the power unit (PU) might be the issue, similar to what happened with my old machine, but it managed to run for an hour now.

My current specs are: MSI B350M PRO-VDH, AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 4GB RAM, MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. It's running at around 10,400 watts with G-Skill Aegis DDR4-3000.

What I've done: performed a CMOS reset and used different outlets. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Replace the existing RAM with a new one

It seems like PSU is the plan. Also, make sure to look inside for any intruder, as you didn't monitor it for two days.

I experienced an older setup where the PSU fan stopped functioning, showing a comparable pattern. It operated briefly before stopping, then would restart and immediately shut down again unless left on for some time. This issue seemed linked to the PSU's overtemperature protection. Would you have another PSU to test? Or another system that could accommodate it?

It seems like a fragile 5v stand-by setup... This type of stand-by power feeds the chipset that manages the boot sequence. If the capacitors in your power supply degrade, the 5v output might fluctuate when the chipset begins using power during startup and initialization phases. When instability occurs, the chipset can trigger a reset or shutdown. You often notice the capacitors failing by swelling or leaking fluid on the power supply; opening it up and checking visually could help determine if this is the issue.

I’ve started it up now and it looks quite typical to someone without experience. I attempted to reinsert my RAM, but that didn’t help.

It seems like you're facing an unusual situation. Other than checking voltages with a multimeter while the computer fails to start, there aren't many obvious solutions right now.
