Interesting situation. It seems my 5900X had a minor issue where one of the DIMM slot latches got misaligned during a cable change. Everything worked normally until it began overheating under stress. That led to a panic moment and delayed addressing the problem.
The CPU temperature remains elevated even when idle, and the BIOS indicates insufficient thermal paste application.
Make sure to power off the device and spread more thermal paste. Stay calm—just a few drops near the center and a thin ring around those three marks should suffice. Be mindful of wiping away any excess as you secure the cooler, avoiding any contact with the board if possible.
I experimented with various thermal paste amounts but the CPU temperature remains elevated.
When troubleshooting CPU temperatures, remember this resource: https://ca.msi.com/Landing/liquid-cooler...pplication
Verify the fan is attached correctly and directing airflow properly. Incorrect connections may lead to issues.
It won't severely impact the CPU performance, though it's significantly elevated. You might want to return the product if it's installed properly.
I've submitted the ticket already, though it feels odd since the 2600 models run at about 50°C idle temps and both have identical thermal paste amounts.
