Switching from i9 9900k to Ryzen 3600 for my needs
Hello, I'm exploring the option to downgrade my CPU and PC. Currently I own an i9900K and use it mainly for gaming and professional photography. I'm considering switching to a Ryzen 3600, which could save around 370 USD while giving me a fresh machine with new warranties. I don't need extra money, just the savings would be nice. Previously, I built my PC with an i9 because I planned to add video production later, but I won't have time for that in the next couple of years. My GPU is an RTX 2080 Ti, and I can still upgrade to newer Ryzen models if needed. I think the i9 might be overkill, though. Photo editing probably wouldn't notice much difference, but gaming at 144Hz on a 1440p screen could be tighter. I already have a buyer in mind. What do you think?
If you don’t require the funds, I’d hold onto it. The i9 would outperform a 3600, and your setup is ready for what’s ahead.
It really makes no sense to cause harm like that. Just hold on, because losing nothing matters whether you have any money for the 9900K.
I’d go ahead with it—the 3600 offers better value and more efficiency, plus it gives you a great reason to upgrade your build. You should be fine playing games with that CPU combined with your powerful GPU; there’s no real need to keep the old one unless you’re interested in benchmarking. Your gaming performance should remain similar. I’d check some benchmarks—I know others have paired the 3600 with the 2080 Ti for their YouTube content.
Keep the i9 to avoid replacing your CPU for years ahead. It's not a good investment unless you really need it beyond tech purposes.
This one is great https://youtu.be/ZfeZRbwK6b0 The 3600 is clearly the quicker CPU. You can also see another recent comparison where you'd lose around 10 FPS on average in games. I'm sure with two identical systems and no FPS tracking, you wouldn't notice any difference.
