I worked with PhotoShop for many years (2005–2018). The images I edited were mainly for printing, usually around 42" by 96" at 150ppi—more than 10 at 4K resolution. I used an i7 2600k from 2011 to 2018. In 2013 I tried a 6-core processor but didn’t notice much improvement. Speed of storage mattered more than the number of cores. If I started over again, I’d use my current setup plus another 2TB NVMe 970 EVO drive. I’ve tested an i9 9900k, which isn’t enough to replace either CPU for Photoshop. Both chips handle the job, but performance gains were minimal. For me, cost was the deciding factor—downgrading would have been too expensive.
