I faced an issue with my hard drive failing and decided to replace it with a Crucial SSD. I used Acronis to copy all data from my old drive to the new SSD. The process completed smoothly, but after shutdown, I changed my boot priority in BIOS to the SSD. Windows started normally until it hit the blue screen with the clock and internet icon. It then froze and restarted repeatedly. I allowed it to finish but it didn’t progress. I shut down the computer and adjusted the BIOS settings to enable hard drive booting. However, the system remained stuck on a black loading screen indefinitely. I’ve tried disconnecting both drives and rebooting the BIOS, but nothing worked. I’m considering a full Windows 10 reinstall, preferably after cleaning the SSD first.

Connect the SSD to the SATA port where the HD was previously attached. Unplug the HD. Power on the system.

Create a Windows 10 installation CD, test the recovery setup, and choose a refresh option instead of a full reset. A refresh preserves your personal data while reinstalling the operating system. If you prefer a clean start, you can opt for a complete reinstall. No need to wipe the SSD.

Ensure the SSD is properly connected, then try a complete reinstall (disconnect the HDD first). Once finished, restore the HDD connection to retrieve your data.

I attempted this, and it's fascinating how the SSD continues to load indefinitely on a black screen, similar to the hard drive. Later, I decided to use a brand-new SATA cable, which also resulted in a successful boot despite the same issue.

Did you format the SSD before attempting to clone it? And please specify whether to work with just the SSD or the HD, then perform a CMOS reset.

I didn't format it. I went directly to Acronis and followed their instructions.

Did you just set up the HD and perform a CMOS reset before adjusting the boot sequence?

You can reset your BIOS without needing a CMOS, but it’s recommended to keep the CMOS active for stability.

I reached the end of the SSD's infinite loading on a dark screen. It functions normally again, displaying the welcome screen before spiking.
