Struggling with GTA 5 progress
I bought an i5 4690k and initially thought it would work well for GTA 5, similar to my experience with the G3258. After installing and playing, performance seems sluggish compared to before. My GTX 660 might be the issue. The game stutters frequently, even at around 50% CPU load in realtime and 70% in Task Manager, which keeps showing a constant 5.46GHz. On MSi afterburner, the GPU usage is reported at 95%, even when playing on low settings and testing various resolutions. I’m puzzled about how a GTX 660 could run smoothly at 45-60fps without stuttering. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It seems your graphics card is quite outdated. For a smooth gaming experience at 1080p with 60+ frames per second, I wouldn't recommend the 1050ti or anything newer than an RX 470.
I was expecting a 780ti once I had the funds, a strong card I could buy on eBay for £130-£150.
The 1050 Ti performs similarly to the 780 Ti in many games, but the older card didn’t treat it well.
CPU runs at 4.4GHz, but Task Manager lists 5.46GHz across all four cores. System has a standard 1TB storage and 8GB RAM.
I’d aim for at least a 980, possibly a 470/480 8GB or a 6GB 1060. All solid drives for 1080P, trying to exceed 4GB if feasible. Textures are getting heavier, so it’ll run longer while keeping higher settings.
