Struggling to identify old video games?
Hello everyone, I hope you're all well. Stay safe and healthy. Your thoughts mean a lot to me. I was considering purchasing some retro games after finishing Chaos Theory, but now I'm leaning toward Double Agent. However, I heard it's one of the weaker parts of the Splinter Cell series, so I was also thinking about Grand Theft Auto 3, though it feels very outdated. Then I thought about Half-Life 2, but after discovering some RTX mods, I decided to play just that one. Recently, I started thinking about Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, but I haven't found any major mods for it yet. I'm a bit confused. Please share your opinions—I'd really appreciate them! It would be a great honor for me.

Half life 2 with RT drastically alters the game's vibe and mood, significantly degrading the overall experience.
Thanks for your teamwork with QuantumSingularity, but I don’t have enough information to confirm it.
Portal 2 benefited from the RTX upgrade, which significantly altered the experience. Beyond performance concerns, the overall vibe shifted, the facility no longer felt neglected and all visual elements were updated—often negatively. In games where developers invested months crafting lighting to convey emotion, this change disrupted the intended atmosphere. The wall portals were meant to softly illuminate edges, not flood entire spaces; the abandoned feel was compromised. Even Quake II suffered, losing subtle details like wall rust and worn shotgun finishes after the shift. The challenge lies not just in implementing new tech, but in revising textures and lighting entirely, which essentially requires a complete redesign. Studios are reluctant to do this for what is essentially a straightforward modification.
Based on your thoughts, you might want to consider purchasing the original version of Half Life 2. You’re also curious if it could make you feel outdated, and you’re concerned about the gaming industry’s future.
Consider your interests and what you enjoy more: the survival gameplay of Half-Life 2 or the mysterious science at Black Mesa.
