Strong jolt upon contact with the power supply and metal laptop
Hey there, I noticed you're working on setting up your PC and had a strange feeling when touching your PSU and MacBook. It sounds like you might be concerned about the grounding setup or something affecting the power supply. Since you're unsure what's going on, it's smart to double-check the connections and ensure everything is properly grounded before proceeding. Let me know if you want tips on testing or troubleshooting!
Ensure proper connection between power cables and ground. Use a multimeter to test for continuity and voltage levels. If the power supply unit is faulty, it may discharge safely—electricity seeks the easiest path, so you won’t be harmed. This could also trigger your circuit breaker to shut off.
Sure, that clears things up. It seems the wall sockets aren’t equipped with a proper grounding feature, which could be why the PSU isn’t working well. The absence of a third prong makes it less compatible with modern systems. We do have a fusebox available, but it might not be enough to resolve the issue. Observing the power strip and PSU directly could help determine if the grounding problem is the main cause.
According to the site, use a Type F socket or plug for your PC and ensure the grounding is functional. It looks like this might require professional help.
Yep.. The two metal things on the top and bottom are missing from most of my sockets in my room, so i got an older type of socket. Luckily, i've discovered some other socket in teh building do have them, probably newer replacements. I'm going to call my housing corporation (basically my landlord) asap to ask to replace mine.
Ensure the "grounded" socket has a proper ground wire inside. Verify if there is an actual ground connection elsewhere, as a missing or unconnected ground can compromise safety. Be cautious of fake grounds or those not linked to a real earth point. In many regions, Type F sockets often lack a ground wire behind them.
