Strange variations in frames per second, minimal CPU and GPU activity
I have a variety of games available across different platforms. Let me know if you'd like a detailed list!
It appears you're checking the details of your gaming setup. Could you share your monitor resolution and refresh rate? Also, let me know your current graphics preferences in Fortnite and Battlefield 1. If possible, a screenshot of both games would be helpful.
72hz 1920x1080 fortnite: viewing distance epic, shadows off, aa medium, textures medium, effects low. bf is mostly on medium to low as well. I can't play bf1 because the app crashes when I open a game, showing an error about ram issues or something wrong. I can't send a screen since it disappears after clicking away.
Your graphic configurations are satisfactory. The performance of your FPS in Fortnite is largely influenced by your internet connection. Your ping remains above the recommended level and your download/upload rates are significantly lower than optimal. As more players join the lobby or game, your FPS will become even more unstable due to these internet issues. This applies to everyone except for your internet situation, which causes your FPS to vary more drastically. In games like Battlefield 1 and other high-demand titles, it's advised to have at least 16GB of RAM along with faster internet speeds.
Upgrading your internet speed is crucial. You'll notice a substantial boost in your PC's performance when playing online games. Similarly, increasing your RAM will also enhance your gaming experience. From my personal experience, upgrading these components won't be a regret. The additional 16GB of RAM eliminates any stuttering you might encounter now. It also provides a much more stable and higher FPS. Upgrading your internet is relatively quick and affordable. I aim for at least 40-60 Mbps download speeds and improved upload rates. Higher upload speeds significantly enhance online gaming performance. Your current 7 Mbps upload speed falls short; I have roughly double that, which is sufficient but could be better.
Your hardware is fine except for the need for an additional 8GB of RAM. On a budget, consider purchasing two new 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks for $73 to $93, and sell the existing ones for between $40 and $60, depending on the brand. Remember, higher RAM speeds will improve your FPS. However, if you opt for 2400 or higher speeds and overclock to 3000 or 3200, it can save some money. These options are still within reach of most motherboards, with speeds between 2400-3200 available for under $80, possibly around $85 for the top brands. Choosing a 3000 speed RAM is a reasonable choice, as you'll recoup part of the cost when selling your current RAM.
