Strange variations in frames per second, minimal CPU and GPU activity
So, I'm experiencing weird FPS issues while gaming. For instance, when playing Fortnite, I can easily reach 180fps, but it also drops quickly to under 10 to 4fps in the lobby, especially when moving fast. It feels like my PC is kind of stuck, and I have to restart it because during the first round it almost crashes, with 4 to 100 fps (a diagram should look like Dracula's teeth). After a few rounds it becomes more stable, like I have to push my PC out of sand or something. But even after that, it still fluctuates, though not as much now. For a competitive player, consistent FPS is really important (not just Fortnite either; I also tried Battlefield 1 and Minecraft, getting around 140 fps with a 128x128 texture pack and small shader, which shouldn't be that low with my setup).
I've already tried several things:
1. Installed all new drivers and stuff.
2. Used software-related fixes from YouTube (FPS fluctuating, low CPU/GPU usage, etc., but it mostly just optimized the game, lowered graphics, set power plan to high, but I don't think those changes made much of a difference).
3. Upgraded my hardware (from 1050ti to 1070tc, as this didn't help; upgraded from Intel Pentium G4560 to Ryzen 1600X; mainboard changed from ASRock H110M to ASRock Fatalty X370).
4. Checked the temperatures of my hardware (CPU 40, GPU 40-60°C).
Side note:
My gaming usage while playing Fortnite is around 40-50% CPU and 40-60% GPU, with about 6GB RAM.
Setup:
Ryzen 5 1600X (not OC)
GTX 1070 (bought OC)
ASRock Fatalty X370 gaming x
8GB DDR4 RAM (I bought 2400MHz but in CPU-Z CPU-Z shows 3200MHz)
Update: I just played Minecraft without any mods and am now getting 30 to 60 fps and 4-8% usage on CPU and GPU.
Update2: I've noticed that when my FPS drops, my GPU usage also decreases.
Are you certain the specifications mention 3200Mhz? That seems unusual, and is it referring to one module of RAM?
It appears many players are facing similar issues in Fortnite, but what about other games?
